“The forces of white supremacy always deputize vigilante violence, because the right to vigilante violence against Black people is arguably what white supremacy is. The right is fighting for the right of white people to police Black people, and to inflict any extreme of violence upon them in the course of that policing…That’s what American fascism looks like.” —Aaron Rupar

#JordonNeely: “The kids thought he really was Michael.” Over the years, Clarke said he frequently saw Neely performing on the A train, but he appeared to be going through progressively harder times. “He put his soul into performing and after a few years on the street, he had no soul left,” Clarke says. “He was just begging for help.”

I was on the F coming back from Brooklyn two weeks ago when the train stopped at Broadway-Lafayette and something told me to look up. There was someone headed right for me and staring. I closed my book and he turned away and sat down. He got off at 34th Street.
From the pictures in the news, I now recognize the person was Jordon Neely. I wasn't on the train the day he was killed, but no one deserves to die because they're homeless or mentally ill.
