It's always so weird prepping for laser on this area.

It's pretty much always:

• Clean & thoroughly shave.
• Coat the area in numbing cream. (Typically uses a whole 10 g tube.)
• Cover the area thoroughly in cling film (aka plastic wrap).

Unlike my electrolysis sessions though, I shan't be sharing prep or after photos 😅

I'd ordered 8x the XL (30 g) tubes, but I guess they were out of those, so they sent me 24x standard (10 g) tubes instead.

First #LaserHairRemoval appointment done! Took only about 10 minutes, HURT LIKE HELL, but not having the hair on my face will be 100% worth it.

@MandyKatDWP It's recommended for all numbing creams to help the cream absorb deeper into the skin. They recommend an "air-tight, water-tight dressing", so cling film (aka plastic wrap) works perfectly.

It's actually listed in the instructions for lidocaine / prilocaine numbing creams.

Belayed episode 5...

I was camping, and no-one complained about me using the "women's" facilities! I needed to use face masks though to to relieve facial hair-related dysphoria (I'm still using masks anyway, since #COVID (and lot's of other bad stuff) isn't over, and probably won't be soon).

The progress on the facial hair is still slow, yet it is noticeable! I still need to shave every few days, but it got so much easier. I thus also cut myself less! I'm confident that my cosmeticians use good technology, and they treat me well (e.g. with extra thick layers of cooling gel, whenever I request it).

The progress at the legs is more advanced! The cosmetician said that soon we can skip the legs every other time. Perhaps I'll let them do the forearms instead (I don't have much hair growth on the upper arms). However, I'm a bit sad that there's still a dark spot on one of the legs that they always have to cover, where I cut myself badly in March.

• You can & should use numbing cream for laser & #electrolysis, especially for the latter.
• Numbing cream is best applied 60-90 mins beforehand & covered with cling film (aka plastic wrap).
• Shave in advance for laser sessions.
• Let your hair grow out for a few days (at least a few mm) for electrolysis.

The session got delayed by one week, because I took part at a TINA self defense workshop 💪

I noticed a slight difference between *before* the 3rd and before the 4th session: The hair was less growing in the last week, which made preparation a bit easier. Before the 3rd session, the hair was growing annoyingly fast.

During the preparation, I listened to the radio 📻, which helped me hyper-focussing. My preparation 🪒 was very thorough; but it took ~90min. I was so well prepared that the cosmetician didn't need to 'help' this time :-)

I had a different cosmetician this time, but I wouldn't have noticed (yay, face blindness). She was very nice and somehow supported me emotionally during the procedure. She even applied an extra thick layer of cooling gel to my face 😉

It was very hot on this day 🥵. I followed her advice and avoided thee sun as much as possible. I got quite dizzy on the way back, even though I refilled my water bottle at a drinking water fountain. I got an headache afterwards, but probably more because of the weather than because of the laser.

The hair on the leg started to grow again at some spots on my legs only after 4.5 days. 🧔 hair is still annoying, but easier to handle, but it's still difficult to shave clean.

My mental health improved significantly during the last month! 🙂 Perhaps one big reason for that is that I finally decided to come out as non-binary; I feel relieved from a big burden that I carried around me for at least half a year... I also recovered from some kind of autistic #burnout that intensified after a deadline and a family visit.

So, given that the biggest problem with my last laser session was mental, this time it went really smooth 🙂 After the face (much pain), I was quite relaxed while the cosmetician treated my legs (much less pain).

Someone on here recommended a specific kind of #razor, which works much better than the old one that I used before. I thus was also better prepared w.r.t. #shaving. However, the cosmetician still needed to help a bit, but she congratulated me for obtaining a new razor (and also for the improved mental health).

I noted one physical difference though. After the first two sessions, my face was literally hairless (I took the opportunity last time to make a pass photo), but this time I already needed to shave the next day. I'm looking forward to the time where my face will be constantly hairless, since I really can't shave that thoroughly.

The Tria 4X machine uses a single wavelength of 810 nm & has an output of 6 to 22 joules.

The Candela GentleMax Pro has different energy outputs depending on wavelength.

1064 nm - 80 joules
755 nm - 53 joules

@mollyd As someone who's had both, they're different but complementary.

Laser is broadly permanent hair reduction. It's faster & more affordable than electrolysis, but comes with limitations.

E.g.,
* It works best with dark hair on light skin.
* It can speed up natural greying of hairs.

I did 9 sessions on my face / neck before switching to electrolysis. YMMV
