The next step up would be for someone - presumably either the #lordpresident #pennymordaunt or the #PrimeMinister #RishiSunak - to recommend to the #king that he be removed from the #privycouncil . I had assumed that this had happened only in the cases of former #cabinetmnisters jailed for criminal offences - such as #jonathanaitken and #chrishuhne I have since found out that this also happened to #johnprofumo sixty years ago after he had admitted lying to the #HouseofCommons .

The other two possible sanctions would require action by the #UKGovernment rather than the #houseofcommons authorities. One would be to remove him from the #privycouncil. This has happened in the cases of former #cabinetmnisters convicted of serious criminal offices - most recently #jonathanaitken and #chrishuhne. Presumably the #lordpresident would have to recommend this to the #King. Although conceivable this seems unlikely to me.

The #UK does in fact have a political office including the title #President. This is that of #Lord #President of the #council They preside over the #privycouncil and are the leader of the #HouseofCommons.The current one both proclaimed #KingCharlesIII last September and carried the #swordofstate at the #Coronation. Although called #lord they do not actually sit in the #houseoflords. The current #lordpresident is #pennymordaunt.
