While visiting my mother in northern Minnesota this summer, I noticed the shoreline of local lake was filled in with wild rice. It was beautiful.

I immediately recognized it as something I've seen many times before. I swam in that lake as a juvenile. I wonder how many times I waded through wild rice to get to open water.
