Research at the border between North and South Korea. This visit to the Peace Observatory, with fences hemming the Han River, brought into sharp focus the fact that borders are a shared fiction even when disputed.

The research is primarily for the project #MappingGender led by Anders Duckworth, for which I am composing music exploring the social, physical and political power dynamics around borders on landscapes and gender.

It was wonderful to realise the #MappingGender preview in front of an audience at Curious Festival at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art last weekend. The one-hour piece explores #identity, #gender, #landscape and the #power structures that try to influence them. Lead artist Anders Duckworth and I have been collaborating on this project through the pandemic since 2020 so it was really special to be in the same place performing to our first full audience.

Wonderful week working with @andersduckworth on #MappingGender. It's been a wonderful journey so far working with @andersduckworth on #MappingGender over the course of 2 years or so on extensive R&D for which I've contributed sound, concepts, composition, tech, images and video. Thank you so much for inviting me into this project Anders.

Mapping Gender explores how society controls and shapes landscapes and human bodies, engaging the audience in discussions of borders, boundaries and their effect on people. It's an invitation to enter a world of #NonBinary perspectives of the demarcations of land and of body.

Next week we kick off one of our final development weeks at Studio Laborgras #Berlin

We're almost there with this new 1-hour performance piece, and will be announcing preview and premiere dates soon.
