I dreamt I’d stumbled into the pair of overgrown, white 100 year old clapboard bungalows deep in rural upstate NY where #Television had apparently recorded their late 70s albums. The #MarqueeMoon house was uncluttered, in better nick - someone had recently tidied up, and I imagined others had made the pilgrimage before me. But the #Adventure house was overlooked and in a state of serious disrepair: floorboards missing, ceiling caving in, vines growing in through busted windows.

Interesting article about the great Tom Verlaine of Television, (by Dean Wareham of Luna). Television started as a punk band (with Richard Hell on bass), then turned into...what? Post-punk? Art rock? Dean says Tom's biggest influences were "Jeff Beck... and John Cippollina, maybe even Jerry Garcia...." There's not much that makes me happier than hearing indie-punk guys professing their admiration for Jerry.

Great story behind #television 's #marqueemoon #robertmapplethorpe cover that I probably knew but forgot. I love that the xerox reprocessing of the original photo–instigated by #richardlloyd not #tomverlaine–left open whether the more well known version is properly part of the Mapplethorpe estate.

(1) @_waterman's 33-1/3 book
(2) permitting self to love verlaine's melodically inventive guitar w/out being or acting impressed--important aperiodic reminder
(3) 'i was listening to the rain / i was hearing something else'
(4) reading decadent poetry, sigh

I finally got to see Television live when they recreated the #MarqueeMoon album at the Patronaat in Haarlem back in 2016. I was with two colleagues who had never heard them before and I'm tapping my toes and singing along to songs I first heard when I got into them in the 80s. And then there was this long jam in the middle I had *never* heard. Found out it was called Persia. Insane. The sound quality is only ok, but these live versions of "Little Johnny Jewel" and "Marquee Moon" from 1978 are an essential part of the legacy. Never released on vinyl in its time, and only available on cassette for more than ten years after this release. You can hear this on the streaming services these days - but you won't find the liner notes there!
