Scientists successfully unfroze rat organs and transplanted them — a 'historic' step that could someday transform transplant medicine https://www.statnews.com/2023/06/21/cryogenic-organ-preservation-transplants/
This is amazing. My son had complete remission from AML 22 years ago with a bone marrow transplant (from his sister). It was a long horrendous period of healing for him. If this new drug can heal people into the future, it would be an incredible advancement in treatment for leukemia.

* This company is about to grow new organs in a person for the first time *
"Their approach is to inject liver cells from a donor into the lymph nodes of sick recipients, which can give rise to entirely new miniature organs. These mini livers should help compensate for an existing diseased one. The approach appears to work in mice, pigs, and dogs. Now we’ll find out if it works in people. "

Happy #FollowFriday my mastodon friends.
Today I’d love to follow some people in #Academics
I’ve tried to find others who attend or teach at #EdinburghUniversity and/or people in the #MedicalScience field but I’m not having much luck.
Would love a follow or a tag/boost if you happen to know fellow mastodon folks in those areas.
As always, I follow all back because I love meeting new internet friends, and y’all are now my friends ❤️

Signed up for a dissection class Friday afternoon prior to our #repoductivebiology practical. We get to dissect rat testes. This makes me giddier than it probably should.
Also, even though the wiki project for our #cancer #immunotherapy project is very messed up, I stepped up and claimed #cytokines as my section to complete.
See I am trying to be a good #student

On January 26, 1907, pioneering Austrian-Canadian endocrinologist Hans Selye was born. He conducted much important scientific work on the hypothetical non-specific response of an organism to stressors. Although he did not recognize all of the many aspects of glucocorticoids, Selye was aware of their role in the stress response.

As you may have guessed, I love learning.
At university I've studied #ethnomusicology (BA, MMus); a very broad field blending #musicology, #organology, #anthropology, #sociology, #WorldHistory, studies of #performance, #religion, #folklore, #gender, etc.
Prior to that, I've taken vocational courses in IT (mostly obsolete stuff by now), sports #massage, #Shiatsu and #nutrition; that also included #anatomy, #physiology, #pathology, #history of #MedicalScience and traditional Chinese medicine. 2/3
