I'm tired of spelling my #name for orders, slowly & carefully & with plenty of enunciation, & having ppl mispronounce it or uncertainly whisper it so I gotta pay extra attention. I'm considering coming up with a white person name, just for these food-ordering moments. When I was young, I rebelled. "LET THEM STRUGGLE, MY NAME IS MY #IDENTITY!" But now I'm old, crotchety, & just wanna quickly go home with my bag of food like some concrete jungle #cryptid.

So... What should my #whitepeople name be (note, some of these are not originally western names but are easier for white ppl than my current name)?

Like, I do not give a shit when you butcher my name. I get it, it's a lot of letters, maybe you're dyslexic or whatever as well. Who knows.

But laughing and saying "I'm not even going to tryyyyy to pronounce this one" just tells me that you don't think you're obliged to make any effort for foreign names, foreign people.

I went to an outdoor gathering today and met old friends. It was great to see them and hug them.

What wasn't so great was the way they treated a newer member of our circle. He's from India and has a super common Indian name. At only three syllables, it's not even particularly challenging.

But my friends kept going "What was your name again?" 🙄

If anybody has any tried and true strategies for dealing with these #microAggressions as a bystander without causing a scene, I'd love to hear them

Being fat decreases your #pay opportunities significantly in the #corporate world. Add into that mix any other intersecting identities, and you have a recipe for extremely low pay in comparison with groups who do not fall into those #identities. The world views fat people as less valuable and proceeds to compensate them according to that belief.

Fat people are a #marginalized group, but it continues to be 'socially acceptable' to make fun of them, treat them as less, make harmful assumptions about them, and regularly enact aggressions or #microaggressions against them.

I think that pretty much anyone here has learned that systemic opression like #racism and #queermisia of any flavour is bad and we need to fight it. What many people don't want to hear is, however, that many of us have internalized isms. If I see a Black person in the dark walking towards me and I instantly get nervous and wonder if they might want to robb me, that's interalized racism. I instinctly act different towards that person, who almost certainly won't have any ill intents towards me. I tense up, might throw nervous glances. I might not be even aware of this behaviour, but the other person probably is, because they are probably sensitive towards those #microaggressions. So it's my job to gain awareness towards this and work on me to be better next time.
This works with any other form of -isms and -misia as well. So, you finding it hard that your partner comes out as #ace? That's a you problem. I'm ace myself and this society tries to push me into #sexuality all the time and puts a lot of pressure on many #asexual people. Lots of people think sexuality is inherently part of a #relationship, but that is not true. You are not entitled to #sex in a relationship. If it feels like rejection to you, it's a you problem. Instead of putting the blame on your parter, work on yourself!
Same with being #trans. You're a #hetero #cis dude and your partner comes out as #transmasc you have to work through any feeling that comes up in you and don't push the responsibility and blame towards your parner.
And so on and so on.
Your partner is still the same person. Your partner won't change into a stranger. Your partner probably simply finds themselves.
I really don't understand why all this is such an issue for many. (The answer is probably society's entitlement to sex, but screw that shit.)

I found two items, although there were several more that a dude incorrectly "well, actually -ied" about in a meeting yesterday. I don't believe in performative technical pissing matches for an audience, who was right and wrong is irrelevant to the discussion. The point is he fed his ego by attempting to correct me. I'm grateful that I will be working with his juniors. This type of interaction is less frequent than it used to be for me, for which I'm grateful. #FOSS #microaggressions
