#mortgagerates hitting their highest rates in 21 years doesn’t seem that bad to me. I bought a house about 21 years ago and the total mortgage payment was cheaper than renting. What bothers me is the insane rise in home prices.

If you are fist time homebuyer, wait for prices to drop. Today’s home prices only made sense when #mortgagerates bottomed out. The combination of these rates (which aren’t historically bad) and these prices make buying a home a bad investment.

Hard for me to think of 6.5% #mortgagerates as catastrophic. These were the rates during the housing bubble in the 00s and before the bubble burst, people bought houses like crazy.

There is a lot of griping about #mortgagerates and yet rates are still lower than when I first bought a house. Sure, higher rates will lead to lower housing pricing, but we knew this would happen eventually. The Fed was giving free money to banks. No rational person thought this would last forever.
