Since 2nd Feb 2023, I passed by / through Kumagaya, Nihonbashi Bridge, Omiya, Omiya Bonsai Village & Tokyo on The Conqueror Challenges Nakasendo Trail virtual #challenge . On 5th Feb, I completed the challenge, which meant I completed it in 35 days which was 1/2 the amount of days I set for myself to complete it.

Today's 20km #kickbike #ride brought me to Hikone on The_Conqueror Nakasendo Trail virtual #challenge .

Today's Hikone is a major city including two former post-towns, Takamiya-juku and Toriimoto-juku. The area was a strategic point for protecting the capital from attack.

Hikone Castle isn’t particularly large when compared to others throughout Japan, but it is one of the few original castles that were spared when the feudal era was abolished. The castle remained in the same family until 1944 when it was donated to the city of Hikone.

Painted in black and white like most Japanese castles, it was constructed out of wood, stone, plaster, and tile. It is surrounded by a double moat and the inner enclosures are divided into three sections, each one accessed by a bridge over a dry moat.

Lake Biwa is the largest body of fresh water in Japan.
