National anthems are strange things, often jingoistic with claims that "we" are the best fighters, who stomp on our enemies, and have a Gun-given right to gods.

The national anthem of Yorkshire, by contrast, goes into explicit detail on the dire cannibalistic consequences of violating the bylaw about wearing a hat on a particular stretch of grassland to the north-west of Leeds.

Yep - I'm one of those many Aussies who just mouth the words to our national anthem. My mother used to describe it as a funeral dirge.

To be frank, I'd like to see Advance Australia Fair dumped altogether, because the words are so hard to sing and the music is so uninspiring. Whenever there's a major international sporting event where we get to hear the anthems from other countries, I envy the South Americans whose countries mostly seem to have national anthems full of flutes & trumpets & cymbals.

Whereas Australia's national anthem can be played on a single tuba: Bomp bomp bomp bomp bomp bomp ba bomp! Very boring. #Australia #nationalanthems
