In WHY INDIGENOUS LITERATURES MATTER, Cherokee author Daniel Heath Justice gives an overview of the unique qualities that Indigenous Literatures share and encourages nonindigenous readers to work on decolonizing their reading. It’s also a great reminder that we all should be supporting Indigenous Peoples all year long, not just on #NativeAmericanHeritageDay or during #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth.

I wish you a happy #NativeAmericanHeritageDay in celebration of #NativeAmericanHeritageMonth. There are currently 574 different federally recognized tribes living within the US, and only half of which are associated with "Indian reservations".

35% of households within the Navajo Nation live below the federal poverty line.
