Well, I know what I was doing right now OTD in 1994. I was on GEnie on my Mac Plus...2-1/2 miles (4km) from the epicenter of the #Northridge #earthquake. I thought, Earthquake. A split second later, I thought, Big earthquake! A split second later, I thought, HOLY SHIT! I was out of my chair and running for the study door. I made it halfway across the room...and I got knocked down and the lights went out. Fun times! We all got no worse than cuts and bruises. That was luck, nothing else but.

My mother became an earthquake prepper after Northridge. An entire drawer full of batteries of all sizes. Propane tanks, so you can grill everything thawing out in the the freezer and boil water in big pots. A FIFO rotation of jugs of potable water in the pantry.

She kept it current for years, until we dealt with it all when she died.

I have an antique high-boy dresser from her house that survived that has an irreparable gash in the top. It's forever #Northridge now.
