Working my way through the UK TV show: Portrait Artist of the Year. I use the sitters for portrait practice. I figure that getting a likeness requires more observational accuracy, so it seems like a good exercise.

I tend to need a resemblance first, unless it's demonstrably stylised. But the judges rarely go for photo realism, there has to be something of the artist in there too, which I understand.

Tonight's paintings are good examples but I won't say more in case you're on catch up (spoilers!).
