Oh, no, the rightful owners might want to keep their property after all, how dare they, the ingrates.
Interesting that the law that says the British Museum can't return artifacts to countries of origin passed in 1963, just when Commonwealth Members started seeking independence. A coincidence, I'm sure.

The @UniteParthenon has proposed a win-win “cultural partnership agreement” that would see the #ParthenonMarbles reunified in #Greece. The proposal would see a joint Greek-British Foundation established to fund a long-term programme of educational and cultural activities 1/2
Let them finally be free and represent the freedom they were created for.
In the country that created them and fought this war for freedom for all those who came after.

This is atrocious. In the case of artifacts from say Afghanistan, its understandable to take care of them externally due to the danger they are in of being wrecked by zealots.
But Greece??? Seriously? A nation that takes the utmost pride in preserving its history? The British government and museum should be ashamed of this. They do not belong to us and we need to give them back.

This is very interesting. Finally we are getting the details of the deal on offer (for the return of the #ParthenonMarbles) by the #BritishMuseum and the deal that the Greek Government would like to have.
There is some overlap - but they're pretty distant from being coterminous. https://twitter.com/alexmarshall81/status/1615295520452362241

Greece has talked down the prospect of a “long-term loan” of the #Parthenonmarbles from the #BritishMuseum in London.
The sticking point is whether the museum is the legitimate owner and therefore in any position to loan them - or not.

Another detailed piece from the Daily Telegraph on the Parthenon Marbles.
It's get to have such prominent press coverage of the case - polling has consistently found that the more people know about it, the more likely they are to support return.
