Perhaps worth noting that there were zero regulations on maritime emissions until the Obama administration. Even now they only exist within certain boundaries around US coasts, but they have already saved thousands of lives. We measure the effect by infant mortality, but the pollution kills people of all ages

In a world first study of daily ambient fine (.5) across the globe, a study has found that only 0.18% of the global land area and 0.001% of the global population are exposed to levels of PM2.5 - the world’s leading risk factor – below levels of safety recommended by World Health Organization (@WHO ).”

Their results also suggest that it's not any one pollutant that drives this effect -- though traffic-related , , certain industrial pollutants and certain and stand out -- but rather an accumulation of many small effects.

This makes a lot of sense to me. It also suggests that regulations that focus on one toxic exposure at a time, rather than , are absolutely insufficient to keep children safe.

, on the other hand, seem to have made a curious choice regarding the color scale their own controller shows based to the same sensor values. According to airgradient.com/open-airgradie, their product shows green (good air quality) until the exceeds 35ug/m³, 7 times the WHO yearly average and shows yellow (ok air quality) up to 85ug/m³, which is deep in the ‘unhealthy’ part of the US AQI scale.

Behaviorally - a is a trait that is (become) more harmful than helpful, in contrast with an adaptation, which is more helpful than harmful.

For example, on average (population ), people have inherited an adaptation so that they'd find polluted water distasteful.

In contrast, on average, people have inherited a maladaptation so that they don't perceive polluted air as "distasteful" (smelling "bad").

In other words, the wood stove industry is lying . (they know the truth). Deception is the norm that the fuel industries et al. use to sell their harmful products. Because the truth would seriously reduce their profit margins. For example, nobody wants to develop dementia.

I'm thinking of creating a Mastodon server specifically for people interested in .

The question is, would anyone be interested in migrating to or using such a thing?
