So much happening these days with the illegal wildlife trade of yellow-naped Amazon parrots. 81 parrots seized in China last month, smuggled as eggs in incubation suitcases. Loss of seed dispensers like Amazon parrots limits forest regeneration and further decreases our ability to combat climate change. Fortunately, community-based conservation works. Despite the sophisticated criminal networks that are trafficking yellow-naped Amazons, #pasopacifico efforts (15 years and counting) to protect nesting sites is making a difference. In Nicaragua, roosting sites have sprung up across the landscape when before they were impossible to find because the parrot numbers were so few.

It's #worldwaterday. Here is a lake we should all care about Lago Cocibolca. It's the largest lake in Central America, yet there is almost no research underway there, and conservation activities outside of modest #pasopacifico efforts are absent. The good news is that the bull sharks are back after four decades since the shark-finning operations were closed.
