I don't recall seeing a "toot" posted here yet remarking on the death of Daniel Ellsberg this past Friday, June 19th. So, I'm doing that here now.

In my view, Ellsberg was a patriot who leaked classified document which revealed the lies that the government had perpetuated in order to prolong the war (which still only call a "conflict") in Vietnam that contributed to the unnecessary death of millions of Vietnamese and at least 50k American soldiers.

His release of the #PentagonPapers to the NY Times and Washington Post raised public consciousness and outrage over that war which contributed to its earlier end; precipitated irrational reaction by Nixon & his minions that led to the premature end of Nixon's "reign" as POTUS and which ultimately was the burden that caused Johnson to decline to run for a 2nd term following JFK's assassination.

What a turbulent time that was!

I lived thru it in a daze and only in hindsight realize how momentous a time it was.

@smaurizi e subito c'è chi si affretta a dire: "Ecco perché il suo caso era diverso da quelli di Snowden e Assange" quando Ellsberg stesso ha ripetuto che i casi erano identici. Anzi il suo ruolo è stato più simile a quello di Chelsea Manning, mentre l'Assange dei #PentagonPapers era il NYT.
