Morning all ☕

It's a bit cooler here this morning so it's a good day to crack on with the chores so I need you lot to be boring. Boring. Got it? Shuffle off and try not to be interesting.

I've just harvested all of my container carrots. Now that the #PortableSolar is sorted, I can pop them in the fridge and save on water.

A while back I chained my panel to the railing and lost the key. A cautionary tale about cheap bike locks: a bit of patience and a cheap pair of pliers is all it took.

Long term planning is completely out of the question in #SustainableRenting but there are some things you can do immediately:

✅ aspect: where the sun is
✅ water use: grey water/fresh water design
✅ composting systems
✅ container gardening
✅ #PortableSolar
✅ worm farm

The brilliance of container gardening is that you can move the pots around to maximise/minimise their exposure to the sun.

Tips for staying 'cool' when you're renting without a/c (on top of the tips mentioned in the article):

✅ Hang shade cloth from your eaves. I attached mine to the guttering clips with soft ties and also used bulldog clips.
✅ Invest in a fan. I run a 12V fan from a 100 A/hr lithium battery connected to a 180W #PortableSolar panel.

✅ Buy some electrolyte tablets.
✅ Don't cook inside. Do all meal prep early.

It's stable on 13.1 but this isn't enough to run a 12V fridge

My Zeer is in constant use.

It's two unglazed terracotta pots, two unglazed terracotta saucers, sand, pebbles, sealant and a pot trolley with a stand inside to keep the contents off the base.

It keeps fruit and veggies cool and I have experimented with other things (be very careful so I'm not stating what). In winter I switch off my 12V camping fridge and keep everything outside in the Zeer. This reduces the stress on my #PortableSolar

It won't work in humidity.
