So sad to hear President Carter has entered hospice care. He did so much humanitarian work after his presidency. I got to shake his hand when I was a little kid, and I remember him being very gracious-even after my mother insisted she was going to shake his hand “come hell or high water” as the secret service was trying to round him up and move him onto the next stop. I've known about this for decades and it's much deeper than this article indicates. Barbara Honegger wrote a book about it ages ago called October Surprise. It was tied to the Iran-Contra affair but Congress swept it under the carpet.

I remember Jimmy Carter's "malaise" speech. I was pretty much in agreement with him, but he paid a high political cost for it. That and the Iran hostage crisis were his undoing. His handling of the Israel/Egypt peace treaty was masterful, though. I don't think he gets enough credit for that. One thing is certain. His work after he left office made him the best ex-president this country ever had.
