I'm slow, so I just now realized how to convey why I have a problem with Twitter-style quote tweets,. Quote tweets dehumanize the original poster. They reduce conversations to little disembodied paragraphs that allow other posters to talk past and about the poster, not to chat with the poster. This doesn't mean Mastodon couldn't use a better way for viewers to see the OP that is being relied to, but the solution needs to not be so dehumanizing. #QuoteTweet

Sigh. Mastodon really needs to implement the 'Quote Tweet/Boost'.

I keep bumping into situations where a 'boost' is insufficient (can't add context). 50% of the time, I abandon the thread.

So, I made a comment on a friend's post on LinkedIn about FB's recent lay-offs then stock buy-back, and it suggested I "lead the conversation" by turning the comment into a post - and I wondered, does FB do that as well? I don't use LinkedIn much, so I have no idea how long they've been promoting quote-posting in this way... Twitter has prioritised QTing for years, Mastodon has vilified it, and LinkedIn is suggesting that you will be more visible and seen as a leader with this action... 🤔

Following up on this earlier toot of mine, I guess the functional difference between real supported #QuoteToot / #QuoteBoost / #QuoteTweet feature in #Mastodon and just including a link is that people are for most practical purposes getting boosted, but they don’t see that they are, and other people don’t see it either.

And I guess if you’re being critical of the toot you’re quoting then it’s not really a “boost” in the English meaning of the term.
