I'm thinking it must be regional. I'm in the prairies and have never heard of it.

Saskatchewan has - or had - an unusual local expression which I don't think was ever used outside the province. What are commonly called "hoodies" in many places were, for reasons unknown to me, universally known as "bunnyhugs" here. I think it's less common now, but still known.

The Mpls-St Paul area has America’s strongest regional gov’t, one with control of public transit, sewer systems and regional parks and with a big say in land use. Regionalists have long celebrated the Met Council. Who isn’t celebrating it? State legislators who think there’s something wrong with how the council’s members are chosen. (Today, they’re appointed by the governor). One possibility: Elect Met Council members. minnpost.com/state-government/

"Carry-in" is another word for a potluck. I read on a website once that this word is a centered in southern , southern , and southern .

It was very common where I grew up, but I've met plenty of people who have never heard of the word. Have you?

@hollybrigstocke @financialtimes has a strong & plausible attraction for security - the EU is a good (if uneven) example - even for medium sized countries has often been unworkable even in the medium term...

of course (as you would likely expect me to say) this is yet more evidence that was a myopic & wrong-headed response to UK's ongoing problems

I had a great time chatting with my friend and collaborator Michael Glass about and for the Regional Studies Association series of “Regionalists on Film”. Check out our conversation and more on the RSA YouTube channel 👇🏻

"In many ways, it’s this obsessive focus on the intersection of food and local identity that defines Italy’s culinary culture, one that is at once prized the world over and insular in the extreme".

"Italy’s nativist politicians seek to exploit deep associations between food and identity to present a traditional vision of the country that’s at risk of slipping away".
