@tiago Yeah, it's the whole #SaaSS thing in a nutshell.
If you're not running the program on your computer, does it really serve you? https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/who-does-that-server-really-serve.html
@lanodan @chjara The assumption is that it serves you as a user, which is to say you own/control it.
The #SaaSS (https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/who-does-that-server-really-serve.html) page pretty much only makes sense with that conception in mind.
An organization/collective can own a computer & control it, but generally the idea I think is an individual owner/user.
@Zee @wowitskaylie @the_Effekt Most of it is corporate greed.
There's no practical justification for #GamesAsAService. The case is very similar for #DRM.
#SaaSS likewise has pretty steep usability & user-freedom drawbacks that make it entirely a bad deal for users. So corporations just deprecate the more reliable & advantageous options.
@maxissakitsune Ah right. Yeah. Understandable.
Personally, once always-online #DRM was added to photoshop (and then it got turned into #SaaSS later) was when I considered it unrecommendable even to users that intend to use #proprietary software anyway.
Are Chat-bots just #Saass ?

Telling people that "all they need is a #web browser", is a terrible idea. Especially if you want to promote #gnu #linux. This is not about the kernel. Or else you would promote such #malware as #Android and #ChomeOS. It's about #userfreedom . And #webapps / #Saass are not #freedom.

There is no such thing as a #cloudcomputing. There are only other people's computers. Those who believe that their files are stored in a magical #cloud, their thinking is cloudy. And while "cloud" storage is relatively harmless. It's like to save money in a bank. Or ask your friend to hold something for you. "Cloud" computing is an issue of an entirely different proportion.

Leading people means helping them move from a point to another.
Like it or not, but #RMS proved a great leadership in #FreeSoftware: he didn't just give it a definition and an identity, but turned it in a powerful and positive political movement. He was being so.successful that #OpenSource was created to embrace, extend and estinguish such movement.
Thank to #OSS we now have #SaaSS, browsers that are more complex to #hack than operating systems and the four #freedoms have been reduced to privileges.
However #Stallman intransigence was still a pain in the ass for many people who want to finally absorb free software in open source.
Without Stallman at #FSF, #GAFAM are way stronger. Now THEY will lead!
Will #Google be creepy with women?
No!
Does Google care about women?
Sure! They are valuable data cow to milk! Great workers! And useful conumers! Just like men.
Same for #Microsoft, #Facebook and friends! They will be great leaders, if you want to be led where they want to milk you.
But I'm a weird #hacker. I prefer weird leaders. Because their weirdness protects mine. And yours.
Don't forget my words: nobody will fight for hackers' freedom. The gentrification process is running fast. First #Linus, now RMS... the next might be you!
