Last was a great panel on generative #AI and #IP #law at #SiliconFlatirons with Blake Reid, Daniel Acuna, @cfiesler, and Viva Moffat. I wish this panel had been after the EU #AIAct vote so I could've heard their take, but it was still an incredibly insightful discussion of an important topic. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OLckB23ImtU (8/8)

Excited to be discussing discussing generative AI and intellectual property with @cfiesler and more at #SiliconFlatirons today! I had the good fortune to listen to the Vergecast's Fake Drake meltdown in the car on the way in this morning and while I can't make any promises, this may be the first time the words "robot Drake rapping about a laser bong" will uttered in the Colorado Law courtroom? https://siliconflatirons.org/events/exploring-generative-ai-and-law/
Next was a fabulous talk by @Margotkaminski on the #law of #AI #ethics at #SiliconFlatirons. This talk clearly lays out a legal analysis of the proposed EU AI act and US proposals, with many of the warts they contain. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H71Am9YgtSE (6/9) #AIEthics

First was a fantastic talk by @cfiesler on forecasting #AI harms at #SiliconFlatirons. The Black Mirror exercise discussed here is amazing, and I highly recommend the entire talk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcbpT4ESTmA (2/5) #AIEthics

Next was a great panel on #transparency and #tech at #SiliconFlatirons with David Sullivan, @evelyndouek, Daphne Keller, Bri Riggio, and Alex Walden. This panel expertly dissects the important and complicated issue of platform transparency from the perspective of companies, regulators, society, and competition. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJPRT0fsrok (8/10) #privacy #platforms

Next was an incredible talk by @Julia on data #journalism, #tech, #platforms, #transparency, and more at #SiliconFlatirons. Among other essential topics, I loved the portion that gets at the need for external auditing, validation, and reporting on high-risk algorithms like hiring and other #PeopleAnalytics applications. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJDPBn2OZFA (10/11)

First was an engaging panel on #transparency tradeoffs and limits at #SiliconFlatirons with Meg Leta Jones, Hannah Block-Wehba, @ericgoldman, Patty Limerick, Emily McReynolds, and Christopher Morten https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDHvCYvK4jw (2/11) #privacy #law

Next was a rich panel on #transparency and the #tech sector at #SiliconFlatirons with @Margotkaminski, @Jausl00s, Rachael Johnson, Andrea Maciejewski, Bryan Semaan, and Amanda Shanor. Not surprisingly I was most partial to the industry view here, but the entire discussion is extremely informative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-gFqHtv9y1w (5/8) #privacy

It's not the main point of the piece, but I also couldn't agree more with @bergmayer that we need a much more sober assessment of both the benefits of LLMs before we freewheel into creating policy incentives and disincentives for their development and deployment. (Speaking of, we'll be unpacking these topics a bunch at the #SiliconFlatirons AI conference on April 21—join us! https://siliconflatirons.org/events/exploring-generative-ai-and-law/)
Next was a fantastic talk by @ruchowdh on the paradox of #transparency at #SiliconFlatirons. This is a grand tour of a lot of Chowdury's groundbreaking work, touching on #bias bounties, accountability, transparency, audits, and more. Highly recommend https://lnkd.in/gZHr4MU5 (3/9) #AI #AIEthics

Next was a fabulous panel that looked back at #telecom #law and #policy and how it applies to current #BigTech issues with Jonathan Nuechterlein, Howard Shelanski, and Travis Litman at #SiliconFlatirons. Historical perspectives on #antitrust and #technology in general are helpful to contextualize our problems, and the rich discussion here identifies a number of ways policymakers and companies can progress to create healthier digital ecosystems. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsWOwiBtSNQ&t=2s (3/8)

Next was a feisty panel on the role of #antitrust in mediating #tech company power at the #SiliconFlatirons w/Kristelia García, @elibietti, Renata B. Hesse, @halsinger, and Christopher Yoo. I would've liked more discussion of alternatives to the consumer welfare standard, still and interesting conversation overall https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1CA3P0VSFU (8/12)

Next was an excellent talk by Tim Wu on how to think about industrial policy at the #SiliconFlatirons Center for #Law, #Technology, and Entrepreneurship. This was a great historical tour of the application of #antitrust and government funding for technology companies as well as providing a nice framework for thinking about how and why governments should regulate companies. Highly recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89UfDmgL8q4 (4/7)

Next was a deep panel on the future of US agencies at #SiliconFlatirons with Phil Weiser, Babette Boliek, Julie Brill, Tejas N. Narechania, Maureen Ohlhausen, and Tom Wheeler. There's a lot to unpack in this discussion, but it highlights the complexity of determining whether new technologies require fundamentally new institutions or if we can retrofit what we already have https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F6FaxvGYv8E (8/9)
Next was a rich panel on US #tech #platform #policy at the #SiliconFlatirons Center for #Law, #Technology, and #Entrepreneurship with Blake Reid, Jennifer Huddleston, Christopher Lewis, Corynne McSherry, and Derigan Silver. If you're looking for a pick me up avoid this panel, since the cases they lay out paint a fairly dire picture of the potential future of regulation in the US. Still something that many folks probably need to hear https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IXrw2RsE9dY (7/9)

A great pleasure to moderate this #SiliconFlatirons panel with Emma Llanso, Gerard de Graaf, @mchris and @JulieOw (out of view, joining remotely) on the implementation of EU platform regulations.
Thanks @blakereid for organizing such a stellar conference!
No better metric for knowing that the #SiliconFlatirons conference went well then to get a text from my mom with a writeup in the local newspaper. Kudos to the students for terrific questions!

In #siliconflatirons the TX and FL social media laws are described as "blatantly unconstitutional". A better phrasing would add "according to all mainstream and/or cogent interpretations of precedent".
If SCOTUS says anyway "nope, these are cool" - and they can - we will have entered a difficult place. We'll have to accept that outcome, because short of constitutional amendment, we have no tools for challenging that. The legacy / legitimacy of the court will be further undermined.
Getting back to #siliconflatirons w/panel on trying to suss out platform regulation on the Hill.
Christians Lima: I get lots of surveys showing people support privacy law, but no surveys that this is a top 5 issue for folks.

Also complexity. Casey Fiesler 'only time I got hate mail was when I explained 1A on local news.
