For those in the southern USA right now (12 Aug 12am CDT) trying to see the #perseid #meteor shower, first look for #Cameleopardalis (the #giraffe) in the NNE, then find the #supergiant #star CE-Camelopardis (aka HD21389) which marks his tail, then look down a bit...
Yes, the #perseids are coming out of the giraffe's butt.
#Perseus is probably a bit annoyed by his meteors taking this route, but the giraffe didn't get installed until 1613.

Looking at the western sky this evening...Venus has moved quite a way onward from Jupiter. Venus is now in Taurus; Jupiter mid Aries. You can see Jupiter just above the house line at the horizon.

📸 taken yesterday night in the light polluted sky over Rome. This is a combination of about 160 images of 15s each. Images were aligned using the comet as reference. During the astrophoto session the comet moved with respect to the sky, so the stars in the background appear as trails.

Colourful gems in the sky ✨
📸 The portion of sky between Aquila and Vulpecula. That night there were lots of thin clouds transiting. These clouds diffuse starlight and create strong halos around the brightest stars. These halos also make the star colours easier to see, which can produce a nice effect on the final picture.
