Happy belate #SpagnumMonday! Adam Koks, working at B-WARE research centre, keeps a Sphagnum collection @Radboud_uni . He uses it to explore the nature of peatmoss growth and get inspiration for restoration projects. So cool to have a moss collection 'at home'. Perfect material to practice my identification skills.

The heat is on! PhD student Yvet Telgenkamp watered the mini #peatlands one last time before the #drought treatment starts tomorrow. We create a heat event with these warming lamps, to mimic the natural start of a drought. Tomorrow we'll lower the water table and create mild and severe drought conditions and a control (no drought). How will the moss adapt?

Watering duty! #peat mosses like it wet. We simulate rainfall using tailor-made devices every couple of days to keep our #Sphagnum happy in preparation of a #drought experiment that will start in January. PhD student Yvet Telekamp who leads this study invented these 'peat-showers'.
We will test how a history of drought and #nitrogen deposition influences the resilience of #peatlands against sever summer droughts.
