Who needs a little summer spiritual practice? Next Tuesday, your house (on Zoom), a gentle breathwork group.

This month I'm focusing on practices that help keep us going together. I'll be sharing a bit about the interfaith order I'm a member of, our flame tending practice, and we'll do a little "flame tending" breathwork.
This is a super accessible practice, and a lovely way to spend an hour. Hope to see you!

Back with Robin Wall Kimmerer, this time on what a gift economy might look like and how we learn from serviceberries and the creatures they are in relationship with. (Also her voice is so soothing). emergencemagazine.org/essay/th

Conversation starter! For me listening and connecting to the land around me, caring for a garden, listening prayer, and breathwork are some of my most important spiritual practices, what are yours and how have they changed over the years?

Have you ever modified a recipe to fit your tastes? What about your spiritual practices to fit you life? You can, and maybe you should but many of us need permission to change things that might seem like ancient prescriptions or sacred traditions... More @ josephinerobertson.com/make-yo

Does anyone know if the CryptoNaturalist of Twitter is over here?

My newsletter today was kicked off by a lovely little poem he wrote about hope and hopelessness.

An excerpt:
"Hope is hard y'all. Because hope demands something of us. It is so, so much safer to sigh, shrug our shoulders, and let hopelessness drive the bus. That way lies certain doom, yes, but doom doesn't make any demands of us."

For anyone a little over full of information, stress, expectations, worry, stress. An online (cameras never required) breathwork group (very beginner friendly if you've never tried) for release and letting go. Sliding scale.

I keep running into folks in various spiritual communities who have been sold the lie that when they're in tune with the Divine life will be easy and ho boy is that a load of bullshit.

On spiritual bypassing, hogwash, and all that.

Who needs some inner FIRE? Imbolc/Candlemas is next week and I'm leading my favorite body/meditation practice: breathwork. Accessible to newcomers, on Zoom (so stay in your cozy space), cameras never need to be on. If you really want to meditate but sitting meditation makes you anxious or fidgety breathwork can be a great alternative.

Hey loves, what one gift can you give yourself before Monday? Watching a sunrise, a call with a friend, an hour in the bath, making cookies, time with a book, a dane party in your PJs?

Whatever it is, go do it. Go on, the internet will keep.

Years ago when I was at All Souls DC, I cofacilitated a class centered around the Seven Principles. We reflected on each Principle - how they influenced our daily lives, our values & actions. Everyone involved agreed that the class was worthwhile, and I remember it fondly.

Now I'm thinking it was a mistake to use the Principles as the focus of reflection, as it encouraged attachment to them. It was the reflection that was worthwhile, the .

I wonder, how many of us expect to be *actively learning* in some way throughout our life. I don't mean as kids in school, I mean our whole life?

I ride dressage and there's no getting around that we are never done learning on the back of a horse. I've been riding for 20 years, I still take weekly lessons. And every time we tick off that homework, finish it, there's something new to learn. Always.

In addition to being a priest and spiritual director I teach breathwork meditation and lead group experiences.

Breathwork is both meditation, prayer, and a tool for self-discovery and healing, and it belongs to you. Breathwork helps still the mind and allows our whole selves to come together in a way we head-centered modern people rarely experience.

New folks are always welcome, sliding scale online groups: josephinerobertson.com/events/

Our purpose in this life is to walk the Noble 8-Fold Path. If not now, when? Given the good fortune of this human birth at a time when the Buddhasāsana still exists, unsure if we'll meet with the Dhamma again in our next rebirth, why would we waste this opportunity to practice?
