between a few internet sources I've put together a transfer method for / with speedy-carve. I'm probably going to write it up in more detail on my site, but tl;dr you can use acrylic gel medium to transfer a laserjet printed image from paper to... Probably a lot of things? It didn't work too well with the last medium I tried it with (something similar to, but not the same as, speedy-carve), but that may have been user error.

process: apply a thin layer of gel medium to both the paper and the carving block. Press together with a brayer and allow to dry. Moisten paper and gently rub with fingers to remove.

It does leave a thin film on the carving medium, which can impact the quality of the print. Large areas of color may be slightly patchier than they would be otherwise.

I would love to know more about how other / / artists transfer their drawings to the carving medium. My current method is imprecise and slow and I'm looking to figure out a better one (ideally, that doesn't end with me needing to buy a printer - I can access laserjet printers at the library and inkjet at the local copy shop for now). Google is giving me tons of SEO spam with a few valid answers mixed in and I'm sick of sorting through it all.

So I was going to post my CarveDecember stuff here as well as Instagram, but then I got sick and barely had the energy to participate. But I did carve some stamps. This was my favorite, based on one of birds from my mixed media bird project that I've been working on off and on for ages (and which is in a new incarnation now because I didn't like the last one.) Anyway. Bird stamp! @adhdcrafters

Easiest part done. I think will stop here for today. Kinda hoping to get a thinner gouge for Christmas so I may wait until then to keep working on this project (My Christmas will be at new year ahah)

First step is printing the drawing and transfer it onto the gum. I draw it again with a posca to be sure I won’t erase the line. I’m losing some details when doing it but hadn’t find pen holding on the gum until now.

Thought I'd drop this link here for any who might be interested: balzerdesigns.typepad.com/balz is a thing that's been on Instagram for a number of years now but I'm going to post mine here as well since this has pretty rapidly become my happy place :)

I haven't done much in the past year -- I did one last week, which was I think my first in maybe six months -- so though I doubt I'll manage to do one every day, I'm hoping to get back in the habit of it.
