Framed my avis aurea. It is now proudly adorning my bookshelves. The original 11th-century embroidery has a whopping 40 goldthreads per centimetre! I came to about 28/32. Not bad at all. To reach a higher number per cm, one needs to split the silken thread further. I was pretty sure my prospective students would not like that very much 😇

Progress on my gold and silk bird. Based on the on the 12th-century held at . I am using gilt Stech 50/60 (very fine passing thread) and Chinese flat silk split into different thicknesses. Pattern transfer using prick-and-pounce and iron gall ink.
