Nie korporacje sprzedające raz do roku produkty w kolorze tęczy, nie politycy chcący iść na kompromisy z reakcjonistami, tylko queerowy pub, który był celem ksenofobicznych ataków ze strony państwowego aparatu represji, co w końcu doprowadziło do pierwszego w historii USA oporu queerowej społeczności przeciwko swoim oprawcom.

W pierwszej kolejności, walczyły czarnoskóre transkobiety pracujące seksualnie, które dziś próbują być wykluczane przez reakcyjne pseudofeministki.

Po stłumieniu kilkudniowych protestów, ich uczestniczki nie zamierzały się poddawać, wręcz przeciwnie, inne queery zaczęły się do nich przyłączać, a opinia publiczna patrzeć bardziej przychylnym okiem.

“We fought for no reason. It’s a shame the way it turned out. We started the riots and what did we get? Nothing. Nothing,” she says. The gay and lesbian leaders were “ashamed to be seen with us” and dismissed Johnson and Rivera as “drug-addicted, alcoholic, crazy bitches [who] aren’t part of this”, she says in her book. Rivera was booed at a Pride event in 1973 when she demanded the crowd care about trans women in jail."

On 28 June 1969, New York City police arrived at the Stonewall Inn, a bar in Greenwich Village that catered to the gay community, to conduct a routine raid and arrest any individuals found to be cross-dressing. The raid did not proceed routinely, and resulted in resistance and demonstrations by the bar’s patrons and other individuals who gathered around the scene. The Stonewall Riots are considered to be a spark that ignited the gay rights movement.

I watched this evening the documentary about Marsha P. Johnson on Netflix at my brother's place. Although the film was full of interesting and inspiring footage, I was not satisfied. It was more about her death and the investigation about that, than about her life. A missed opportunity IMO and a disappointment. Still I advise anyone to see it.
