The view from the top of the hill this morning; #StormOtto has cleared through. There is only a very light northerly breeze; and the sound of the waves 134 metres below.
The views start from the north with Kerrera and Oban, then round via Mull to the Garvellachs, Scarba and Luing.

SSEN community welfare vans are out and about providing breakfast to some of those still without electricity.

Spent three hours yesterday evening cutting branches from four or five trees that have fallen across the route I use for my run, due to storm Otto in the morning.
Exhausting but satisfying work, especially as my bow saw blade broke so I had to use a small tenon saw. 😆
Looking forward to testing my new 5k assault course run this morning. A few “up and unders” to be negotiated.

#stormotto hit #aberdeenshire and #moray pretty hard, with wind speeds in the #cairngorms up to 125mph. I’ve been without power most of the day but with a lit wood stove, oil lamps and candles burning I’m toasty warm. No place like home.

#stormotto has arrived in Sheffield, this tree on Highcliffe Drive Ecclesall is one of the first causality. My colleague Cllr Barbara Masters has reported this to @sccstreetsahead they are treating it as a “emergency” tree should be cleared away soon. @SheffieldStar @BBCSheffield

Currently Scottish and Southern Electricity reports "103 unplanned #PowerOutages"

It remains to be seen how long it will take to repair them all.

I believe #StormOtto is hitting the north east of England and Scotland but here on the #LancasterCanal in the north west it has been a pretty windy night and there look to be waves on the canal. The #narrowboat moored in front of us has just set off ok though.

Among concerns when storms like #StormOtto run through is the safety of our #offgrid wind charger. We have burnt out a few in our time, as they are unable to cope with our conditions. But our little Superwind, although not a large device, manages itself beautifully. Here is the power graph as the storm went through, holding down output in spite of winds up to 70mph. It does overspeed momentarily in heavy gusts, but quickly reacts to safer outputs. The graph shows 5-minute averages.

So someone's storage bench is visiting the back garden this morning.

Woken up to #StormOtto and one hundred km/h wind, which Groupie is battling with in her quest to get to work in this morning. Stay safe, Groupie.

Whew! It wasn't too bad a blow after all. Already we have:
Pressure trend ▲ ▲ ▲ ▲ rising very rapidly
from the weather station, so the system is well past. Highest gust was 71mph at 5:05am, a very concentrated event. The deep low pressure is building again, very very quickly. It's amazing our ears aren't popping with that pressure increase so steep.
The windfinder site shows the storm building over the North Sea though, so it might affect our neighbours in a few hours.
