@Kobiac @SJohnRoss
If you want something very free-form, storygame-leaning, and less procedural, a couple oldies you might try:

Donjon by Clinton R. Nixon
lulu.com/shop/clinton-r-nixon/

octaNe by Jared Sorensen
memento-mori.com/pdf/octane-pr
(Also the Blood & Steel fantasy supplement)

Both these games' mechanics deal a bit with sharing narrative power within an established framework (mode/setting/adventure).

31) Favorite of all time

Tough choice, but I'll have to go with Trophy Gold by @jesseross and published by @gauntletrpg .

It's a dark fantasy RPG that uses modern story-game mechanics and an OSR-like approach to exploration. The press-your-luck dice mechanics mesh perfectly with the play experience. And the collaborative writers-room approach to the narrative constantly introduces new and unexpected story-beats.

27) that needs a new edition.

It's a fun and accessible game that presents D&D-style heroic adventure gaming in a and context.

But it's a 1st-generation PbtA game and very clunky in places. There is so much new game tech since developed that would greatly improve play. A new edition could fix the colonialism and racial essentialism that was baked in with its DNA. A potential DW2e could also be divorced from its problematic co-author.

26) Favorite character sheet

Have to go with the skull-sheet from Necronautilus. It completely drives home the themes of the game!

I sometimes forget how little is actually required to facilitate a playtest - in a couple of days I have hammered out a couple of pages of a playtest document for my In-A-Wicked-Age-Heartbreaker, and it's extremely crude, but also fully testable.

I mean, it helps that I've stolen The Owe List and don't have to write my own Oracles just yet.

Did I just play a game with the Regina's wedding play set? Did TikTok influencer Regina dump the groom, a professional bounty hunter, when she found him in a compromising situation with her mother? Did she then instead marry her secret lesbian lover? Did the groom meanwhile hide himself inside the wedding cake with a giant gun for a Some Like It Hot style revenge? Except that he hid himself in the wrong cake, for another wedding in the same castle? I deny everything.

11) Weirdest I've played.

"The Final Girl" is a GM-less that simulates a slasher movie. The players create a setting and premise, then a cast of about a dozen characters. You play two scenes to establish relationships between the characters, then the Killer enters play. In Killer scenes, play a simple card game to see who dies; players can use their established relationships to play extra cards. Game ends when there's one character left, who escapes.

Last night, I facilitated the conclusion to a three-part series of the GM-less story game "Fall of Magic" over at @openhearthrpg

"Magic is dying and the Magus is dying with it. We journey together to the realm of Umbra, where magic was born."

Our game followed our characters as they escorted the Magus across a magical realm and across the sea, and how the journey changed them.

Here's the actual-play of the series:

I facilitated Session Two of a three-part series of the GM-less story-game "Fall of Magic" last night. With player consent, I recorded the session. We plan to conclude the story next week.

Here's a link to the full playlist.

@factolvictor My Sunday "Star Trek: Cortex Prime" game is cancelled this week.

Monday, I'm facilitating session 2 of a 3-part series of the GM-less story-game "Fall of Magic"

Wednesday, I'm GMing "Monster of the Week"

And Thursday, I'm playing in an "Ultraviolet Grasslands" game using "Black Sword Hack."

And somewhere in there, I need to finish writing a Trophy Gold incursion: the deadline is Friday.

I've been neglecting this account for a while because I've been very busy with finishing and shipping out two games ( and ), building a new website with a shop (plotbunnygames.com) to sell physical copies of them, and talking to the German-speaking TTRPG community (over at @curiouscat@pnpde.social and my publishing company @plotbunnygames ).

But I miss my timeline here and want to make an effort to be more present here as well!

Has anyone else experimented with transcription and summarization tools for D&D and other tabletop RPGs?

My experience has been with discord + transcription bot + custom chatGPT bot and it works better than I expected.

While players and DMs should proactively take notes, sometimes it does pull you out of immersion, and the bot's notes fill in the gaps in those fun moments.

If someone else has a similar setup, I'd love to hear what you think works best.

@empathy @renegaderich And then there are GM-less games where everyone is responsible for narrative control at various points. The "Belonging Outside Belonging" and "Firebrands Framework" familes of games all do that. Other GM-less RPGs include Fall of Magic (Heart of the Deernicorn), Lovecraftesque (Black Armada Games), Desperation, Fiasco (both Bully Pulpit Games), and The Final Girl (Gas Mask Games). I recomnend all of the above!

Enough talking about printer problems, I wanna show what I'm printing

Heirs of the Leviathan is a World of Dungeons hack where you play the heirs of a fragmented realm - it started out as a simpler version of The Sword, The Crown and The Unspeakable Power, but now it leans more Sophocles and Shakespeare than A Song of Ice and Fire.

I haven't playtested it yet, but now I have a kit ready - and having it printed is kind of cool
