Another #CYOA clone for today’s #StorytimeWithSteve: “Dog Food & Other Delights” (1987, Making Choices)

Parents reward you with a dog for good grades - he’s actually a talking alien from another planet. You travel to planet via doghouse spaceship (like the Tardis). And that’s pretty much it.

I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would. Some similarities with #ChooseYourOwnAdventure’s 2014 Dragonlarks book, “Space Pup.” #gamebook #interactivefiction

Today’s #StorytimeWithSteve #gamebook reading: “A Horse Named Funny Bits” - a #ChooseYourOwnAdventure knockoff from 1983. You are given a horse for your birthday, but live in a residential neighborhood. Where do you keep the horse? Never answered. We hit lame 3 endings in 15 min.

#StorytimeWithSteve selection earlier this week: 1984’s “The Fantastic Journey of the Space Shuttle Astra,” book #7 from the Pick-a-Path series, Scholastic’s knockoff of #ChooseYourOwnAdveture for younger readers. Oddly fell into the most popular #gamebook trope: time travel. Blah.

For #Halloween #StorytimeWithSteve I tracked down an out-of-print #ChooseYourOwnAdventure: "Haunted Halloween Party" (1986). You go to a costume party at wrong house with real ghosts/witches. Fun story with excellent art featuring scratchboard illustrations.
