Season 12 for Southwest Florida Eagle Cam begins in early October. There should be 4 cameras on-site - two on the nest (one is a 360 camera), one at the pasture pond, and one between the pond and the nest tree. LY, two cameras were taken by Hurricane Ian, which also took the nest!! The late Harriet, along with M15, had to race to build a new nest just three weeks before she laid her eggs

This is M15's female friend. We'll see if she is his mate once the nesting season begins

The season will begin on October 1st. Cams will go live at the end of this month, and we'll be able to see if M15 has a new love and watch as he fixes up the nest for new eaglets. There should be four cameras on site.

M15 arrived in 2015 after Harriet's longtime mate died. M15 was barely an adult, yet Harriet chose him out of all of her suitors, and he managed to fight them all off.
His first go at fatherhood was riddled with chaos. For many reasons, E9 was the most memorable eaglet and would have been challenging for an experienced eagle parent. He even seemed to baffle18-year-old Harriet, who had seen it all. See alt text for more. 🤣

Harriet (left) died last season, leaving M15 without a mate. They were together for almost nine years.

M15's new lady friend(pictured right, bottom branch) looks a lot like Harriet. She has the same beak shape and is just as chatty as Harriet. They've been spotted at the nest tree, fixing up the nest and chasing a couple of intruders.

If M15 chooses her during nesting season (which begins October 1), I'm not sure what she'll be called. The Pritchetts were considering giving M15 an actual name. I'm unsure if that debate is ongoing or has been settled.

Cams go live at the end of next month. Recap: M15 lost his longtime mate, Harriet, last season, and he had to raise two eaglets alone, which he did, against all odds!

Donna Lee, who lives in the Fort Myers area, posted these pics of M15 and his lady friend. She said they are very comfortable on the nest tree together. She also said they are both very chatty and carry on full conversations! We'll know for sure if M15 has selected her as a mate in the Fall, but all indications are that he has!

Attached is a five-minute clip of M15 and his frequent lady friend beginning nestorations!!! This is the female who may have been hanging around with him since late last season. For background: M15 lost his longtime mate last season. Harriet was 25 when she died. M15 is about 13.
Interestingly, despite the fact that this is M15's nest, the new female he pairs with will be the dominant one.

Recent photo from someone who lives in the area. This is the female who has been hanging with M15 for a couple of months. She may be the one! Of course, we’ll have to see what happens during nesting season in the Fall. It’s bittersweet. I miss Harriet. She and M were together his entire adult life. But he needs to move on… and so do we.

As the eagle's nest turns...
Poor M15 was hit by an owl twice last night. As if Harriet and M15 don't have enough to worry about defending their nest from other eagles while they incubate their eggs! There is a pair of nesting owls next door, and they are relentless.
