Basics: The importance of a routine
Treating T2 diabetes isn't easy. It requires information, research, planning, monitoring, adjusting, and sacrifice. There is no one size fits all. You have to take into account your objectives, your body, the advancement of the disease, your personality, etc. Making a plan that works for you is a big job in itself.
For these re

Interesting discussion on Jeremy Vine today. Should #t2diabetes patients he given diet drugs in the UK? For some, perhaps many, I would say yes. But I would also say that becoming dependent on any drugs when for some there are other options thatare available. We should try them. #diabetes
@housepanther although diet and exercise is only part of the # diabetic #t2d health plan. I have so far found both make a huge difference. All the best. #t2diabetes #t2d
Basics: phase 3
Now that my HbA1c has been stable for 8 months without any medication, I consider that I'm entering phase 3 of treatment.
Phase 1 was weight loss, glycaemia control, increasing insulin sensitivity for 6 months. During that time, my HbA1c went from 7.5+% to 5.0%, I lost 40kg, I fixed my fatty liver, high liver iron, high blood pressure, and various other issues.
Phase 2 was the re

Basic: blood glucose is not the issue
A lot of T2 diabetics are focused on their blood glucose levels. They monitor it and they want medication that will make it go down. But that's the wrong thing to focus on. Kinda.
Blood glucose is a side effect of what the problem really is. High blood glucose, i.e. diabetes, it generated by two causes:
1) High glucid intake.2

Day to day: another day in my food
As it's summer and it's hot (we often hover in the upper 30sC), we eat mostly salads at the moment. But it doesn't have to be boring, there are a lot of combinations you can use.
First, breakfast and the traditional eggs.
During the morning I took my blood pressure and it was 117/81. Pretty decent given that I had high blo

Basics: why subreddit mods are wrong
Once I was kicked out of the subreddit /r/diabetes_t2, the mods went through all my comments to add their own reply. To every one of them. That comment said:
diabetes_t2-ModTeamMODST2 Diabetes can’t be cured or reversed. Put into remission, yes. Controlled, absolutely… but once a diabetic, always a diabetic. It never just goes away. Don’t ta

Basics: effect of food poisoning
It's not an experiment I would have wanted to run, but as it happened, i thought I might as well keep an eye on what was going on.
Yesterday, immediately after lunch I started to feel queasy. About 20 minutes later, I was vomiting my lunch. I was sick for about an hour until I felt well enough to go lie in bed for the rest of the afternoon, with a o

Opinion: subreddits are run by people who love their diabetes
I've been permanently banned from the /r/diabetes_t2 subreddit because one of my posts "violates this community's rules". I can't see which rules and they don't specify (how convenient).
My experience of Reddit diabetic communities is that they are run by and are full of people who desperate

First year of diabetes retrospective
I wrote this post to start a new Reddit community on reversing diabetes. I grew tired of the other communities where the credo is that diabetes is forever, that it can't be reversed, and that it can only get worse. This isn't supported by recent research, isn't my experience, and shouldn't be imposed on faith.

Progress: 1 year anniversary
This is the first year anniversary of my diabetes diagnosis. To celebrate, I had a quarterly blood test done this morning.
The results are in: fasting sugar 86mg/dl, HbA1c 5.4% (down from 5.44% the last time). So, everything is still good, post-diabetes is sticking as expected.
Below is a graph of all my data over the last year: daily average

Day to day: rice
The one thing that I'm still not entirely happy eating is rice. Pasta, wheat, and everything else doesn't spike me much anymore. But rice keeps my blood sugar high for a long time.
For example, the other night I ate a big bowl of rice and vegetables with breaded "chicken" (wheat since I'm vegetarian). So a nasty combination of rice and wheat in several forms. Before I

Don’t conflate #t1diabetics and #t2diabetes. They are two different conditions with different causes and mostly different treatments. Yes, 90% of total diabetics are t2. They get the press and the research dollars. But I get so annoyed at the press (and others) claiming new information for diabetics only to find out half way through the article that it’s about t2. This is just me being a cranky old man, but geez, I wish they would rename t2.
Whether diabetes can be reversed is a hot topic, with lots of people refusing to even consider the possibility. Next week, at the DUKPC conference, the DiRECT team will announce that for 11 participants in their study out of the 48 that went into remission, remission has continued for 3 more years (total: 5).

Ahh yes. Time for my daily mid morning startle as my CGM alarm screams at me.
Been having trouble keep my blood sugar up in the mornings post gym.
My fellow T2Ds know what's up.

I just started #Ozempic a couple weeks ago... after a lengthy battle with OH Medicaid to get a prior auth. It's now on backorder because it's the hip new weight loss drug. Well, it is until some dumbass blows out their kidneys taking a #t2diabetes they didn't need; then the FDA will end up banning it because of said dumbass.

+1. I'm high-risk for #t2diabetes (inherited from both sides of the family), and while this tech is definitely interesting for people like me, it's wayyyyyyy overkill.
Annual bloodwork does the job.
@Bonnie_Sparks Hey Bonnie, Welcome!
