Misschien wel één van de meest invloedrijke bassisten uit de moderne muziekgeschiedenis.
In 1954 leert hij contrabas spelen, en komt zo terecht in de jazzmiddens van Detroit. Hij begint te werken in de #HitsvilUSA studios wat later de studio's zullen worden van #Motown.
Hij zal daar deel worden van de band verbonden aan Motown die zichzelf #TheFunkBrothers noemen. Deze band zal bijna elk Motown nummer
