Given what they had to work with, I'd call this season "respectable" if they at least end the season at or above 500 and marginally successful if they can at least make into the playoffs.

I don't know what "special sauce" they use in LA (and it isn't just the $) but it's currently impossible to compete w/the Dodgers and, in the near term, the only way the Giants can get into the playoffs is via a wildcard slot.

They still have a "chance" to do that this year. They are currently only 2 games behind AZ in 3rd place in the wildcard race but IMO it's still a longshot for them to grab the 3rd spot unless they can really turn it on to finish the season.

We'll see . . . 🤷‍♂️

I was glad to see Kapler take Web out after 6 shutout innings tonight. Every time he's let Webb go 7, Webb's given up runs when he didn't have the advantage of a 9 run lead.

I'm in on Bailey & Matos but am unsure about Schmidt & Harrison. I think the latter 2 definitely need more time in the minors.

Schmidt is a pretty good infielder but he has made fielding mistakes and he swings & misses at sh*t outside the strike zone all too often.

Harrison is a strong thrower but he doesn't seem to have enough movement to fool big league hitters. He had 1 good outing but the others were a struggle.

Unless something changes dramatically, I will not have anything further to say about the Giants this season.

They had a couple of nice runs but it's clear that this "cut & paste" team of rookies and jouneymen players is clearly inferior to the best teams in the MLB, many of whom they've played recently, and it is highly unlikely that they'll make the playoffs, let alone finish w/a win-loss record over 500, which is where they currently stand at 70-70 with 22 games left to play.

I hope that they do better than I expect and will be ready to sing their praises if they do but the odds clearly are not in their favor. 😦

Here's hoping that the team will do better next year. 🙏

Why is it that Giants pitchers seem prone to give up 2-3 runs in the 1st 1-2 innings of a game requiring the Giants hitters to always play catch up?

Aren't things difficult enough without spotting the opposing team 2-3 runs before the Giants even come up to bat? 🤷‍♂️

So, I see that the Giants tried but there were unable to perform any "miracles" this evening resulting in another loss to the Cubs 8-11, they're 5th loss in a row.

In today's game vs the Cubs, Webb pitched a good game, giving up only 1 run (a HR) thru the bottom of the 6th.

However, Kapler again kept him in too long and he gave up another 2 runs before he was relieved in the bottom of the 7th. Beck gve up 2 more runs in the bottom of the 8th.

So, the final score was 0-5 Cubs but the Cubs only needed the 1 run off of Webb to win the game and stick him w/the loss (w/a recored of 9-12) because the Giants' "hitters" only got 2 hits the entire game and struck out 13 times.

As a result of this loss, the Giants have fallen to 5th place in the Wild Card race, 1 game behind AZ & the Reds tied for 3rd and 1/2 game behind the Marlins in 4th.

Obviously, the more games the Giants continues to lose, the worse this will get and, frankly, given the upcoming schedule it's highly unlikely to get better. Oh well . . . 🤷‍♂️

The Giants will NEVER get Ohtani & besides he's hurt, can't pitch & can only DH now and isn't doing a very good job of that. Bellinger might have helped early in the season but not now and, besides, if he's doing so great, why would the Cubs let him go?

The best the Giants can do this season is try to win enough games to grab the 3rd spot in the wild card race and play the #2 team in the wildcard race in a one game winner take all that the Giants will probably lose but, if they do win it, they'll then have to play the #1 team -- the Dodgers -- and again will probably lose

So, let's just relax and let the cards fall where they may rather than try to chase rainbows that will have little to no effect on the viability of the Giant in the playoffs this real.

The recent run of games w/top tier teams where the Giants went 6-12 is proof of that. Get real!!! 😎

The Giants lost 7-3 to the Padres last night and the game was lost in 2.2 innings after Beck gave up 4 runs on 9 hits including 2 HRs.🤷‍♂️

The Giants has chance in the 9th when their 3rd run was walked in w/the bases loaded and only 1 out but, of course, the next batter (doesn't matter who) hit into a double play to end the game. 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

The loss ties the Giants w/AZ in 3rd place in the Wildcard Race 2 games behind the Cubs in 2nd and 1 game ahead of the Reds in 4th.

Hopefully, Harrison will come out throwing like he did the last time out, so that the Giants will at least have chance to compete to win the game. 🙏

Despite starting off last night's game by leaving the bases loaded w/o scoring a run in the top of the 1st, the Giants were able to beat the Padres (7-2) who gave up 6 runs on 5 hits along with 2 errors in the top of the 3rd.

Absent the errors, the Giants probably would have scored only 4 runs but would still have won the game.

Junis pitched a solid 4 no-hit/no run innings w/3Ks & only 1 BB. Manea pitched 3.1 inconsistent innings on 3 hits, 5BBs, a WP & 2Ks & was lucky to get the win & to be charged w/only 1 run after he was relieved by Walker in the bottom of the 8th w/a runner who got to 2nd on a single & WP.

Alexander gave up the other run in the bottom of the 9th on a double, WP & single but was able to close out the game w/a pop up & a double play.

So, it wasn't pretty but it was a win which keeps the Giants in 3rd place, 1.5 games behind the Cubs in 2nd & 1 game ahead of AZ in 4th.

Here's hoping for another win, however it comes about, today. 😉

Well, the "old" Giants returned today.

Webb went 6 innings but gave up his usual 2-4 runs in that time. In this case it was 2 but that were all of the that the Reds needed to win the game which they eventually won 4-1, because the Reds pitchers only allowed the Giants to get 4 hits in 27 ABs.

However, the Giants actually had 8 baserunners (the extra 4 on wals) but still managed to leave 7 of those men on base.
Like I said, it was the "old Giants" playing today

Looking on the positive side, despite the loss, it was a "good thing" that: 1) Doval got another day of rest; 2) the Giants took 2 out of 3 games in the series & 3) the Giants remain in 3rd place in the wildcard race tied w/AZ, 2 games behind the Cubs in 2nd place and 1 game ahead of the Reds in 4th.

Next up is a 4 game series w/the Padres, who the Giants "should" be ble to beat but the Giant's haven't been too good at doing what they are capable of doing these days. 🤷‍♂️

Great outing by Cobb last night to beat the Reds 6-1. Too bad he didn't get the no-hitter but you seldom get to see any starters pitch 9 innings anymore & that's quite an accomplishment in itself.

I understand why Kapler left him in but putting Doval in would probably have preserved the shutout & it still would have been a no hitter.

It has been nice to see Giants starters look like starters the past 2 nights and it proves how important it is to have that GOOD PITCHING to win games. Of course, you need some hitting too but you only need to score a few runs as long as you've got GOOD PITCHERS on the mount.

The win put the Giants back in 3rd in the wildcard race, 1/2 game up on AZ in 4th & 2 up on the Reds in 5th.

This was also the 1st time in a long time that the Giant have won 3 games in row & hopefully Webb can avoid giving up 2-4 runs in his 5-6 innings, so that the Giants don't have to score too many runs in order to get the win to sweep the Reds. 🙏

I watched last night's game, that the Giants won 4-1 vs the Reds, on replay.

I usually just watch the scoring plays but I took the time to watch all 6 of the shutout (3H, 11K & 2BB) innings that Harrison pitched.

It was certainly a much better than his 1st outing vs the Phillies where he gave up 2 runs in just 3.1 innings (on 5H, 1BB & 5Ks) but I'm not willing him to call him the "messaih" yet.

Harrison was gassed after throwing just 91 pitches putting the last 2 batters on base w/a double & a walk after getting the 1st batter out in the 7th.

As Kapler does w/Webb, he waited too long to relieve Harrison but Matos & Walker saved his ass w/a put out at the plate & a K to end the inning. And Doval got the save w/o a K but on 3 straight put outs in the 9th.🙂

With the win, the Giants are still in 4th place in the wildcard race, now 1/2 game behind AZ in 3rd and 1 game ahead of the Reds in 5th.

So, the Giants need to win again today. 🙏

It was nice being able to watch the Giants play like a "real" baseball team beating the Braves (which currently has the best record in baseball 84-45) 8-5 today. 🙂

It was also nice seeing Doval pitch like a "real" closer again by getting 2Ks and the final out on a liner to save the game (3 up and down) to avoid a 3 game sweep.

That's the good news. 🙄

The bad news is that this was the 6th 3 game series in a row that th Giants lost 1-2 with a record of 6-12 in the past 18 games & they are now tied w/the Reds in 4th place 1.5 games behind AZ in 3rd in the wildcard race which makes the next 3 game series w/the Reds starting tomorrow at Oracle VERY important.

Let's hope they can take 2 out of 3 from the Reds to stay in the WC race because if they drop 2 out of 3 again, they'll fall to at least 5th in the wildcard race which will put their playoff hopes in serious jeopardy. 🙏

The Giants lost to the Braves again today 7-3 and have 1 more game to play against them tomorrow.

The Giants need to win tomorrow in order to maintain their "streak" of losing 2 out of 3 games to the past 5 teams that they've faced.

Put another way, the Giants need a win tomorrow to at least win 6 out of the past 18 games.

If they don't win tomorrow they will have lost 13 out of the last 18 games facing some of the best teams in the MLB, which is worse than what I expected would happen and they still have to play 3 more games vs the Reds which could make matters even worse than that.

Oh well . . . 🤷‍♂️

Couldn't watch the 1st game @ home vs the Braves yesterday because it was broadcast on ESPN+ which was just as well since they lost 5-1.

I "feel" for Webb because he seldom gets any run support from the team when he pitches, which he sorely needs, because he almost always gives up 2-4 runs before he's relieved. In this case he gave up 5 runs before he was pulled in the 5th inning. 🤷‍♂️

On the other hand, the Giants only scored once w/a runner in scoring position, left 6 men on base and struck out 11x's out of 33 ABs 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

After this loss, the Giants are not 3rd in the NL West 13.5 game behind LA in 1st & 1.5 games behind AZ in 2nd and,
more importantly, fall to 4th place (out of the running) ties w/the Reds 1 game behind the Cubs. 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

If the Giants get swept by the Braves and the Reds in the next 5 games, the Giants will fall below 500 for the 1st time in many months when there were as high (if I recall) at least 12 games over 500.

Oh well . . . 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

I just watched the 10th inning in yesterday's game that the Giants won 8-6 over the Phillies after Doval blew his 2nd save attempt in a row.

It was interesting that the 3 runs that scored in the top of the 10th by the Gaints were all unearned and that all of the runners who scored were rookies -- Schmidt (the designated runner on 2nd), Bailey (walked) & Meckler (HBP) & that the newest rookie DeYoung got a single that scored Schmidt & Bailey.

The 3rd run was scored on heads-up running by Meckler who crossed HP before DeYong was doubled off on 1st following a bloop hit to center by Estrada.

Then, in the bottom of the 10th, Taylor Rogers gets 2 Ks but gives up double to make the score 8-6 but Walker comes in to get a fly ball to left that Meckler almost doesn't see to end the game.

The Giants, who used 10 pitchers, worked really hard for the win but it was TORTURE!!!

The Giants have the day off today and need i because next up is a 3 game series vs Atlanta. 🤷‍♂️

It's on the DVR so it's going to be interesting to see how THAT happened. LOL!!!!

That's the good part but this is the 5th series in a row that the Giants have lost to 1st string teams 1-2, which doesn't bode well for their playoff prospects but we can savor the win for now. 🥳
