The #Tennessean reports on the DCS crisis:
"The Tennessee Department of Children's Services failed to adequately investigate dozens of reports of sexual abuse and sexual harassment allegations in its state residential facilities in 2021, according to a scathing state Comptroller report released Tuesday.
The state audit also found DCS ignored dozens of additional reports of alleged consensual sexual activity between residents[.]"
Problems with placement in TN DCS is not new. I & a colleague presented at a conference in 2006 about a lack of placements for children (resulting in longer than necessary hospital stays) the problem persists. (BTW at the time I held a leadership position in a residential hospital for children). Mental health facilities are important, but these are short-term placements. TN General Assembly should be ashamed of the way they treat children
