Bugs and insects.
I should have been in bed two hours ago, but here are some photos.
By some miracle, the sequins are done.
198 hours and 45 minutes. I'm calling it done here.
I want to put my initials and the year in cross stitch in the border, probably in teal as that's the lightest. But that's not happening tonight.
Stabbing update. Got far more done tonight than I thought I would.
193 hours in total so far. 15 hours and 15 mins of that has been on sequins over the past two days. No longer so confident I can get it done by the end of Tuesday, but we shall see.
Could definitely get it done by pulling a sickie, but I'm not going to do that. Sewing will need to happen during Writing Group both days.
Stabbing update. The tide of sequins is rising!
Seven hours down, and I'm approaching halfway with the sequins. Hoping I can get them all on there by the end of Tuesday.
After that, I want to add a little cross stitch label at the bottom with my initials and the date.
It's nice to be on the home stretch!
We've reached the first break of the Making Historical Dress workshop, so here's the progress so far on the sequins.
Damn fine opening paper, much to think about.
Starting the morning by looking at photos of the insides of blinged-up C17th coifs so I can see exactly how they deal with the threads on the inside. If their threads are allowed to travel a little way between sequins then so are mine.
Haven't heard back about the repro C17th spangles for the coif. So I've ordered some regular old flat 3mm gold plastic sequins instead. They look decent enough for a reproduction. I've had them in iridescent before - used them for the squirrels pocket. They're decent quality.
I can always use the spangles on the one I'm keeping for myself, if she does ever get back to me.
Finally finished the outlining. 177 hours 45 mins for all the stitching.
Next step will be the bling, when I get hold of the spangles.

Progress to date. 175 hours so far.
I'll be adding a little extra speckling after I've finished this bit, then it'll be time for the spangles.
And at some point between those stages, I'll iron it and pop it in one of the frames I picked up at a charity shop yesterday. Can't do the spangles with a hoop, that way lies frustration.
@Fredatron Oh! I feel really slow on the uptake now. I read "Now to figure out how I want to sew the long outline that marks what would have been the stitching line if I was going to make the coif up. " and it dawned on me that that must be why it's called the #UnstitchedCoif. It had been vaguely perplexing me, given how many stitches you'd been embroidering!
(2) See also websites/blogs of the volunteers (Google for unstitchedcoif and/or unstitched coif and/or Tony Buckby and/or ...) and follow the hashtag #UnstitchedCoif
I thought it might be fun to take some photos through my thread counter.

My brain is unhelpfully roaring Home Stretch!!!!!! And telling me "You can get the outlining done by the end of the weekend". I'm not sure that's correct, not least because I have other things to sew and do this weekend, but progress is being made.
I'll definitely be adding a bit more speckling in some areas after I've finished the outlines, but on the whole I'm pretty pleased with how this is coming out.
Stabbing update. Not far to go now, just another forever. Made it to the penultimate corner 🪡
Now I'm now awake, I thought it might be fun to post some pics of the back.
It's nowhere near the mess I'd expected, and it's reassuringly similar to the backs of C17th speckled blackwork I've seen 😅
There's nothing like looking at actual historical sewing in detail to make me feel better about my own stuff. We get this impression that everyone in the past sewed perfectly all the time. They didn't.
Made a little more progress this evening.
