上帝没有宣判什么人进地狱。上帝希望所有人都得救。
但同时上帝也给了人自由意志，这是一种可怕的特权，让人判决自己该下地狱，还是应升天国。

圣奥古斯丁在《上帝之城》中说，毫无疑问，在天堂里得到的快感要比这里强烈得多，因为不能设想人死后什么都没有得到改善。
