急に幻覚を見出した小説家は #永瀬正敏
20ヶ月妊娠してる女性
行方不明の旦那の捜索に
妖怪「 姑獲鳥 」にカエル頭の赤ん坊
旦那の捜索に過去が見えるということで
いろいろ情報を出して
事件をほったらかしにする探偵 #阿部寛
そうやって次々に出てくる情報に、
早口で解説する古本屋で神主役の #堤真一
次々といろんな人が出てきて
場面が変わって、ミステリーなんだか
オカルトなんだか、
訳のわからん話に振り回されたうえに
監督が #実相寺昭雄
凝った画面レイアウトに
我慢から湧き出てくる不思議な雰囲気
もう実相寺ワールド全開の不思議空間
とにかく訳はわからんうちに
なんとなく引き込まれ最後の解決編は
ミステリー、オカルト、伝承など
見事に盛り込んで事件解決
もう一回ぐらい見ていろいろ意味がわかると
もっと感動できるんじゃないかと
もしかして、カルト作というやつかーと
勝手に健やかな気分に

It surprises me that these films aren't more widely known. Mandara is the toughest for me to watch, and not easily recommended (because it tackles sexual violence) but they are all remarkable. The last film "Poem" is my favourite. Buried in it is this complex meditation on writing and persistence.

A young man is in a graveyard. He has a piece of paper draped over a tombstone, he is rubbing it with some charcoal to reproduce an image of the calligraphy. A wandering monk passes thru and asks him what he is doing. Before continuing on his journey he concludes:

"In the stone, there is nothing, only darkness. Even if you built a stone grave with the thought of keeping the memory of the dead alive, that idea is self-deception. The soul of the dead will, in less than a 100 years, completely disappear without a trace. The longest soul can only exist for 1400 years. That is nothing but posthumous resentment. It is said that when the Buddha died, his soul was immediately eliminated."
