W: What does “chez” mean in #French? How is it different from “maison”?
Me: “Maison” is a noun and you can just use it by itself. “Chez” is a preposition roughly meaning “dans la maison de…” and must be followed by a noun or pronoun.
W: Oh.
Me: How do you say “home” in #Taiwanese? 厝?
W: Yes, 厝, or 阮兜 for “our home”, but you can’t just say 兜 by itself. It must be preceded by a pronoun to say whose home.
Me: Exactly.
W: Oh~!

我由細到大都對唔同 #語言 好有興趣。除咗求學時期必修嘅 #兩文三語 之外，我由中一嗰年開始就喺佐敦嘅法國文化協會學 #法文 ，前後學咗六年，當年會考仲報咗法文做第十科㖭。之後中六嗰年嘅暑假又再喺灣仔歌德學院開始學 #德文 ，去美國讀大學嗰陣都仲有繼續讀㗎，直到大學畢業。之後返香港，識咗個意大利人，於是又走去 HKU SPACE 學 #意大利文 ，都講得唔錯㗎，起碼依家都仲同到意大利人吹到水先！
臨離開香港之前，我仲學咗大半年嘅 #香港手語 ，叫做勉強同 #聾人 傾到偈嘅。
至於下個目標，就係 #臺語 嘞！

「塊」（地方）根據英文維基詞典引用學者的語源表示，可能和「段」有關。

Today, while recovering from my recent vaccinations, I've been watching ridiculous Taiwanese soaps (which I often do to keep working on my Mandarin) and it's been super-exciting to pick out words and phrases in Taiwanese as well.
