Not only party members and members of the Komsomol, but also non-party members were invited to this party meeting. The impression from the long reading of the report and from the reaction of those present was strange - in the audience almost all the time there was deathly silence. The only thing - in those places where Khrushchev spoke about how Stalin, in order to determine the time of the offensive, sniffed the ground - a slight noise rolled through the ranks. After the meeting, everyone also silently, quietly dispersed. And the next day everyone was surprised by Zhenya Karelov. In the past, he was the secretary of the district committee of the Komsomol and, like his friend Vasya Shukshin (who was also associated with party activities), all the years at VGIK he wore a paramilitary suit, a kind of party uniform, and then he appeared in a green velor hat, fashionable a coat with giant shoulders, tight trousers and boots with thick corrugated soles (a real dude from Gorky Street!), thereby eradicating his party past from life. Shukshin wore a party uniform until the end of his stay at VGIK, this was also a principled position. #舒克申
We did not discuss that meeting loudly. And not because they were afraid, just the impression was so strong that it took time to comprehend. It seemed that we should have been ready for this letter (by 1956 some facts had already become known), but it is one thing when such things are spoken about in the corridors, and quite another thing when they are reported officially.
