The second most successful geisha of the whole Japan since postwar period: Mineko Iwasaki. She was active in Kyoto from 1964 to 1979. Her biography is a milestone for those wishing to understand modern geisha, in my opinion.

Cherry blossoms are so important in Japan that an endless range of themed items is available during hanami season. Sakura also appear on geisha and maiko kimono, dominating both March and April outfits.
This couple of matching kimono is owned by Shigemori okiya in Kyoto, and worn here by senior maiko Kotsuru (left) and Kohatsu

April is cherry blossom month in Japan, and apprentice geisha (named maiko, in Kyoto) are no exception. They wear sakura in long lines or in neat hemispheres. A few of them also dare to pair the flowers with small lanterns, a symbol of upcoming spring dances.
