Now as fediverse is maturing, we know that it can replicate the experience from empires, we should move our focus to what we actually want from social media.
We should move towards resource light societies that requires less land and that allows freedom from addictive design.

Firefox isnt really an unchained portal because it is too heavy. Heavy tools goes at the expense of modifiability and understandability, reducing its ability to provide freedom to the masses.
But firefox is a portal for the hypertext web. A web that demands heavy portals. Thehypertext web can therefore never be saved. Not by Mozilla nor anyone else.
We dont just simply need another portal, we need another web that encourage the developement of #๐ค๐ฒ๐๐ข๐ฑ๐ and unchained tools.

@bitzero I believe this overlooks the potential for gemini. It isnt intended to do the same thing as the regular web except less. By requiring no design experience from the site maintainer, it enables more people to join in. It lays the foundation for gemini to become a distributed web, where everybody completely owns their own pieces land.

Our attention is extremely centralized. We look to states and empires and most of the times, the biggest ones.
We do this to the degree that we have stopped seeing each other.
When we have a question, we don't ask our peers, we ask the search engine. When we are lost in the city, we dont ask our peers. When we are bored, we don't connect, we look at our phones.
And when we ask question, people say "you can google that", as if human communication is worthless.
Is there an operating systems that encourage lightweight software, in the same way gemini (#๐ก๐ง๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ฒ) does this? #radicalDesign #humanArchism #๐ช๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ก

The way we talk about code being free doesnt make sense.
We should not fight to liberate code. Code has no feelings. We shouldnt ride with our swords and die for its liberation.
And just because code is free, doesnt mean it is good for us. Firefox is free, but it transparantly mines our attention for Alphabet and Amazon.

Tools being open, doesnt mean that they are good. We should also strive for lightness. And we should create systems that encourage lightness.
Because lightness means its easier to change, add features, make more accessible and so on.
The gemini (#๐ก๐ง๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ฒ) system is great demonstration of this. The lack of features means that one can write a portals in 200 lines of code, if not less. Last time I counted, there was 40 different functional independently developed portals for gemini.

I like to call internet browsers for portals. Because you jump from one place to the next if that be a society, workshop or spot.

The internet is an alternate world, built up of societies, workshops and spots. These needs to be established on land.
Today most land is owned by a few corporations. In effect, a few dictators are governing billions of people.
Most people cant take ownerhsip of land because it requires learning technojargon, an eternally expanding language used to set up and manage land.
This is why people flock to the empires. Because they can rent you land in exchange of controlling you.
Instead we should primarily describe it as a subscription tool.
"Do you got a subscription tool like RSS?"
"No, what's that?"
"Its a way to subscribe to the content from websites. For example, my content on my social media can be subscribed to, so if you add the site in the tool, you will see it in the timeline."
"But do we really need it though?"
"Today, the way we subscribe..."

@seachanger Mastodon.social cant moderate because it is too big, therefore it should be blocked.

๐ internet is built to be open, but ๐is goes against corporate power mongering. ๐erefore ๐ey has spent loads of resources into understanding how to make ๐ internet less open.
By using branded language, we empower corporations and limi๐s the possibili๐y for compe๐ition. We need to unders๐and wha๐ we are actually doing.
"I'll do ๐ฉ websearch."
"Do you have ๐ฉ favourite video director?"
"I made ๐ฉ clip yesterday ๐ฉbout my progress with juggling."
"Did you see my post from yesterday."
๐erhaps it feels clunky at first, but we might get more comfortable with use, or maybe even ins๐ire others to come u๐ with better terms!
There are really few people who are challenging the language used in technology, even though it has a monumental impact on our relationship to it.
We all just accept the jargon we are given without a second thought.
But the thing is, a word isnt just a string of letters. What we call something isnt arbitrary. Words can alienate us, like with abbreviations and academic words. They can embrace analogies that distracts or creates clarity. They can empower a corporation or people.

When we visualize the fediverse, we tend to present it as a giant soup. Everything goes into the soup and everything is connected.
However Fediverse is built up of societies and busiplaces (think instance) that more or less associate with each other. Fediverse is divided.
Language are strong dividers. Angloheim is home for the anglosphere and Nordheim is the home for norwegians.
Weak dividers are ideology. Radicals gain more autonomy through owning their own instances.
A society is a place where members primarily interact with eachother. A society can be based on a society model such as Pleroma, Mastodon, or Hubzilla for example.
A busiplace is a place where outsiders interact with it. A busiplace can be based on a busiplace model such as Peertube, Mobilizon or Funkwhale.
A garden is a place where one can express oneself. A garden can come in the form of a personal website (hypertext or gemini).
Allheim consists of societies and busiplaces.
@sarahemclaugh We can fight it, but then people has to take ownership over their technology.
This might seem impossible, given how little interest people has had for technology.
However, the core of the problem is that terms used in technology and in digital issues isnt made to be understandable. We use brand names instead of words. Analogies in tech oftentimes works to mystify instead of clearify what is going on. And we seem to embrace this regression instead of fighting it.
What about having a video busiplace architecture where the videos are public, but videos are deleted with time. This could make it less resource intensive to host a video busiplaces. And it would encourage users to upload regularily.
