For the final day of #12DaysWild, lets get creative with some wintery photography!
If we get another heavy frost, be sure to savour it as they are increasingly rare, and look stunning when captured by a camera’s lens ❄️

Day 10 of #12DaysWild looks like another day rained off. So some time inside where it's dry, entering the records of my Devon trip into #Birdtrack so the BTO can get data from them. https://www.bto.org/our-science/projects/birdtrack
Day 9 of #12DaysWild there was finally sunshine for my last day in #Devon. So a trip to the RSPB reserve at Powderham Marshes (photo) for Cirl Buntings, then a longer walk around the next-door Exminster Marshes. Where there were Barn Owls. Early afternoon as far as I could tell I was the only person at Powderham, while the car park was full due to people visiting Exminster.
#12DaysWild on the moor at Staines. Serene Swans, Buzzard being buzzed by Crows...
Day 8 of #12DaysWild was the annual #birdforum combined bird-list event, so I was chasing around looking at birds. But as it's also #WidflowerHour here's a sprig of Gorse from #BerryHead, #Devon. There were porpoises offshore, too. Great place. And a decent chunk of the day it didn't even rain!

Day 7 of #12DaysWild was another day mostly rained off. Wind and rain all day here. But early on there was only light rain so here's a picture of the bit of #Broadsands car park where the cirl buntings feed in winter. They're the specks flying away in front of the bushes to the right...

My day 8 of #12DaysWild will be chipping in to the annual BirdForum collaborative Jan 1st bird list. People across the UK pool their lists to see how many we can total. Last year we got to 153, of which 3 were ones I saw and no-one else did. If you think it sounds like fun, have a look at https://www.birdforum.net/threads/january-1st-joint-birdforum-list-2023-edition.433981/ then make yourself a BirdForum account and just join in. There are also lists for USA, Europe, Australia etc, not just a UK thing. #birds #birding
Day out at Broadsands, Paignton for day 6 of #12DaysWild. Great Northern Diver, both cormorant species, a grey seal. Very nice. Did I have my camera with me? No, I did not. Could I at least take a landscape view on my phone? Well, maybe if I'd remembered to charge it. Grrr...

Day 5 of #12DaysWild. Tried to add to my list of birds seen close to home without using transport. No joy today, stuck on 37 for the year.

Day 4 of #12DaysWild!
A great place to discover Norfolk’s magnificent winter birds of prey is at NWT’s Raptor Watch-point at Hickling Broad & Marshes.
At our most recent visit we saw marsh harriers and a hen harrier, plus a woodcock and kingfisher too! 😮

Merry Christmas! For day 1 of #12DaysWild why not tune in, by switching off?
Trade your phone & TV for the gentle melancholic song of a robin or loud explosive call of a wren. Step outside, close your eyes & smell the damp vegetation that fills the winter air. Time to relax!

Starling murmurations are a magical experience, great to share with loved ones!
Before settling down to roost, they perform a swirling dance, creating patterns in the sky to distract predators.
Look for them this #12DaysWild at NWT Hickling & RSPB Strumpshaw.

Took a bike ride down to a small island on the Thames and saw, aside from the usual squirrels, ducks and coots, a heron up close.
No camera though :(
Day 4 of #12DaysWild. Rain, rain and more rain. Did set off to the larger & wilder of the local parks in search of birds, but the rain got heavier and I decided I'm too old for this business of going out when it's both cold and wet. Don't mind one of the two; not both together.
