As I noted previously, any further delay is now moot. So it wouldn't matter if Biden invoked the #14th today or June 2nd. We'd still go into default for a short period of time.

If Biden does so on his own now, he'll get 99% of the blame. It's smarter to wait. If the GOP caves, they'll piss off half of their supporters. If they DON'T cave, they will (at the very least) share half the blame (I think more.)

IF the default last months (I personally doubt that), invoking the #14th will have an almost immediate beneficial impact as the Market breaths a sigh of relief that the DC will never be taken hostage again, encouraging investment in T-bills/Bonds so we quickly replenish the coffers and pay off those (immediate) debts.

...and the GOP knows it. That's why they'll never default. They already lost the hostage of Roe, and that bit them in the ass in '22.

Invoking the #14th this late solves nothing. We'd STILL default of a period of weeks or months. Might as well just continue to negotiate (and let the GOP continue to shoot themselves in the foot.)

Invoking the #14th *now* (this late in the game) makes any further debate pointless, meaning a guaranteed default for which Biden will get ALL the blame.

Mostly, the reason Biden must negotiate raising the #DebtCeiling instead of just invoking the #14th is b/c he waited too long.

But it's the first time we've had to raise the #DebtCeiling since taking office and nullifying the #14th before any debate had even begun would have poisoned the well for the rest of his term.
