For anyone who doesn’t know this: the original, excellent idea is to create urban infrastructure that allows everyone to get everywhere they need in a 15min walk. But somehow an upside down version of this has gained traction: lockdown style restrictions on movement. Would love to know who exactly is behind this (and so much more conspiracy crap)

I should say that my tolerance for riding #transit for up to 1 hour entirely depends upon said transit running so frequently that I would never be forced to wait for a conveyance for more than 6 min at a time, so #headways of no more than 6 min, or 10 trips per hour, and ideally, even more frequent.

My #urbanism difficulty with the concept of the #15minCity is that while I am happy to ride transit for maybe an hour for the occasional event, in no way am I interested in walking more than 5 min from my door for daily tasks.

I could tolerate a 5 min walk to the subway station, a 20 min ride, and a 5 min walk from station to office at the end. Certainly, that would be far shorter than my commute during my high school years from #CollegePoint #Queens to #StuyvesantHS in #Manhattan #NYC

#15mincity "controversy"? For real? These deliberately distracting and divisive moral panics are getting increasingly absurd to the point you at least laugh instead of cry. How much dark money is being pumped into this shit to lower people's intelligence? 15-minute cities are about people being able to access things in their locality rather than, y'know, *preventing* people from travelling beyond them - although right-wingers can spare me their crocodile tears about "freedom of movement." At least if they grew up in, like, the 1950s they should be familiar with the capitalist plan for suburban sprawl so people bought a house, a car, a television, and on, and on...

My hometown #Utrecht has expressed the ambition to turn itself into a #15minutecity, after the example of #Oxford. The idea is not new. Soviets were not allowed to stray too far from their own homes without getting into trouble. Off course, the current cities will not show that side of the concept yet. You don't want the hoi polloi to raise the alarm bells. Do it gradually and they agree in blissful ignorance that it's actually a good idea.
