May 19 - the birthday of Flemish painter Jacob Jordaens (1593-1678). He was a prolific artist who created biblical, mythological, and allegorical compositions, genre scenes, landscapes, illustrations of Flemish sayings, and portraits. As well as being a successful painter, he was a prominent designer of tapestries and prints.

"Adoration of the Magi" (1609)
This large oil painting (11.6 ft x 16.1 ft or 355.5 cm x 493 cm) by the Flemish Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens was painted in 1609 and later gave a major reworking between 1628 and 1629 during his second trip to Spain. It is now in the Museo del Prado in Madrid.

Detailed historical map of England, 17th century.
