Attempting a temporary 750’ #BeverageAntenna build next week for #160m #TopBand. Lots to learn.

Looking at an IQ file I made this AM of #CQWW160, and while I planned to "cheat" w/ DX Cluster to find any DX, I found one station not spotted: #N2TTT on 1985.1 kHz LSB.
His work shows how challenging DXing can be on #TopBand. He tried to work #OK2BFN yet was rogered w/ call misheard as OK2BON.
I struggled to copy him too. Took me several listens to hear Delta Echo in his report
My 1st DE on MF (none on MW) 💡

Wow, I've just found a station in war-torn #Ukraine! #UT6UD, Vadym in Kyiv. Deserves an award of its own! 💙💛 #hamr #hamradio #amateurradio #160m #CQWW #CQWW160 #contest #mediumwave #mwdx

Isn't it remarkable that the 160m SSB contesters are actually filling in the whole band, to the point there's NO CW? And somebody's even on 1809.5 kHz LSB, which, I think, is out-of-band here in IARU R1 🤣 #hamr #hamradio #amateurradio #160m #CQWW #CQWW160 #contest #mediumwave #mwdx

Looks like there are no ruZZians in the #CQWW160 Contest, SSB part. You know what it means... the band is open for DX 🙃
Heard Shandong PBS on 918, HLCA on 972, and CNR5 on 1116 kHz, although I did NOT hear more usual CNR1 on 1377 kHz... so I hope the ionosphere makes up its mind about higher MF frequencies 😉 #hamr #hamradio #amateurradio #160m #mediumwave #mwdx

Now on my SDR in 🇵🇱, looks like I have to move to 160m and the #CQWW160 Contest running, to find some neat DX - and I do find #JT1YO on 1843 kHz @ 1514z, all the way from Mongolia 🇲🇳❗ Very fady signal & had to confirm his callsign by matching to a naZi ruZZian #KiwiSDR 🤮 where local noise makes his audio distorted (really it's fine elsewhere). Noted moved to 1844 CW by 1522z #mediumwave #mwdx #hamradio #160m

Found the missing coil of wire from last year and put up the 1/4λ #160m inverted-L #antenna on the 12m Spiderbeam pole and a line thrown over a tree.
Ran a counterpoise at a ~120° angle (top-down view) up the hedgerow. Shady move: I tuned it by shortening the counterpoise, not because it was a good idea, but because it was easy. Do I have a horizontal radiator 6' off the ground with an inverted-L for a counterpoise?
Anyway, SWR is ~1.3 and I worked Minnesota on it last night, proving nothing
0708z 1836.00 F5POJ briefly not in contest
0655z 1836.37 G3DR
0657z 1837.16 DR5X MONSTER SIGNAL
0724z 1838.90 G5AT
0715z 1824.10 ➡️ 1823.9 ON6SAS trying for sb, no luck
0711z 1824.50 G2E
0711z 1831.00 G3PQA not in contest
0710z 1832.2 OZ0B
then some Europeans still trying to work the TA stns, mostly to no joy
VO1HP still copyable @ 0723z

And that's W2DG at its peak @ 0659z on 1834.65 kHz. As said in the log, PA4VHF and DJ5AN both tried to work him unsuccessfully. I wouldn't either as I'd have to listen to his best snippet multiple times - post-factum of course 😂 #hamr #hamradio #amateurradio #160m #mediumwave #mwdx

You can imagine how hard it is to bring some of those faintest signals both to audibility and to visibility. Here, I did my best with zooming in & adjusting the SDR# waterfall to make out the most of C6AGU's signal... yet I still had to correct it with GIMP! #hamr #hamradio #amateurradio #160m #DX #mediumwave #mwdx

And at 0706z I just heard a weak CQ on 1819.8 CW, w/ much stronger respondees. It's so weak I'm barely seeing it on the waterfall 🧐 #hamr #hamradio #amateurradio #160m #mediumwave #mwdx
